City of Cartersville set to meet tonight in calendar change
The Cartersville City Council voted to continue with the same law firm for municipal judges and continued Dan Porta’s contract as city manager in its meeting earlier this month. The council will meet tonight after a January calendar change to accommodate the New Year holiday. The work session begins at 6 p.m. with the meeting at 7 p.m.
Harry White and Harold Choate III will remain the city’s judges after the council approved their contract. The judges’ salary is $6,000 paid monthly as a total lump sum to both attorneys.
The two attorneys were sworn in after contract approval.
Dan Porta’s contract was unanimously approved. His salary is $244,598.79 annually.
Other city business was routine first of the year dealings including:
- The swearing in of mayor and council members winning the last elections.
- Heard an update on annual impact fees.
- Approved the updated cost for city calendar mailing. The original amount was $15,882.41and the new cost is $25,071.48. There were more added to the distribution address list because new housing developments were completed.
- Appointments were made. Don Jackson was appointed to the Planning Commission and Thomas Tucker was appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
In other business:
- An area of Zena Drive was voted to be a no-parking area. It is an unnamed street on the north side of Zena Drive east of the Highway 41 right-of-way.
- The council approved purchasing several properties to build a Fire Training Facility next to the Public Safety Headquarters. Those properties are 207, 209, 215, and 217 Cassville Road, 12, 14, 16 Harris St., and an unaddressed lot on Harris Street.
- The annexation and zoning request for a parcel of the Chemical Products property was approved. The owner wants to use it as a tractor trailer storage facility.
