One thing I have noticed about cooking my evening meals is that I often use my air fryer instead of pans or the oven. It is so convenient and doesn’t take 10 minutes to ‘warm up’ to temperature like the oven. It also leaves meats moist and tender when fully cooked.
The entire chicken dinner is easy to prepare and only takes 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of your chicken breast. Since chicken breasts are often huge these days, I sometimes split them to make them thinner. Of course, the thinner slices will cook quicker than a whole chicken breast. Cooking times will vary. Leftovers can be sliced for the next day’s lunch. They are very tasty when added to a salad, and the seasoning is excellent on chicken or fish.
Air Fryer Blackened Chicken
Blackening Seasoning
- 1 ½ tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon ground dried thyme, crushed.
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 to 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (I prefer the smaller amount)
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Combine and store in a spice jar or other sealed container in a dry, dark place.
Chicken Preparation
1 chicken breast
Olive Oil or Cooking Spray
Blackening Seasoning
Set your air fryer to 360°. Spray chicken breast top and bottom with cooking spray or lightly coat with olive oil. Cover both sides of the chicken with blackening seasoning before placing it in the air fryer. Cook in the air fryer for approximately 8 minutes, flip the chicken, and finish cooking for approximately 7 minutes more. A meat thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Note: Air fryer temps may vary, so keep a close eye so you don’t under or overcook your dinner.
Let the cooked chicken rest under foil for about 5 minutes to let the juices distribute evenly.
