A couple got the final approval Thursday night for a special use permit to rent out a guest house on their Pine Grove Road property when family isn’t using it.
The Cartersville City Council gave property owner Marianne File the approval she needed after a second reading and public hearing. There were no opponents. Approval came with conditions of implementing staff recommendations in the project along with project data and abiding by the concept plan.
File said at an earlier planning commission meeting that she bought the house but wanted the city to approve her plans for renting occasionally. Her mother-in-law will stay in the house some now and may live there permanently one day. She wanted to rent it in the other times it was vacant.
Mayor Matt Santini noted during the work session that many rent out spaces without going through the proper process as File did.
In other business, the council approved:
Buying an automated side loader garbage truck with a security camera for just und $374,800.
Contracting with Cornerstone Demolition & Grading to clean six properties. The cost is $87,000 but not to exceed $140,000.
Spending just over $496,000 to finish a project to identify materials in all of the city’s water service lines. There remains over 1,000 not yet identified.
Approving engineering for a water extension Jordan Road.
Making an amendment a natural gas sales agreement HSBMA LLC. The company had agreed to higher rates to cover $10 million the city invested in infrastructure. City Attorney Keith Lovell said that debt has been repaid, so the contract should reflect that. The contract could be changed again if there are additional costs.
