According to numerous reports online, Tyson Foods is looking to hire 52,000 immigrant workers and various groups across the country are calling for a boycott. Americans fear jobs are being replaced with cheaper, migrant labor.
The group America First Legal issued a statement and warning to Tyson Foods reminding them of the labor laws: The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) makes it illegal for an employer to discriminate with respect to hiring, firing, or recruitment or referral for a fee, based upon an individual’s citizenship or immigration status.
At the center of this controversy is a non-profit group called Tent Partnership for Refugees. They have over 400 large companies already on board. The slogan on their homepage reads: “We mobilize major businesses to connect refugees to work.”
