Bartow County Republicans held its precinct meeting on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Euharlee Baptist Church. The breakfast meeting brought out around 60 people. The purpose of the meeting is to enlist delegates to attend the upcoming Bartow County GOP meeting.
Those new to the GOP, the local organizations, and precinct workers lay the groundwork for campaigns, legislation, and fundraising to support local, state, and federal candidates. They also have a say in the state and national GOP platforms, a list of core values and goals the party wants to initiate or promote.
The precinct meeting is the first step. Voting precincts were represented by those attending this past meeting. Precincts represented signed-up delegates to represent the precinct at the county meeting. Those with no representation will not get a vote. Bartow County GOP’s officers will be chosen at the county meeting set for March 11.
The next step is the April 26 district meeting, followed by the state convention scheduled for Dalton June 6-7. Each meeting includes electing officers and voting on business for the group to address.
Local GOP organizations do more than select delegates and officers. Officers plan educational and informational meetings for members and the public, promote either support or opposition for legislation, host community events, and plan public meetings where elected officials can be questioned. They also organize “meet and greet” events for candidates to talk to the public.
Some upcoming events include hosting a Bartow County School Board panel where the public can ask questions and discuss issues with BOE members, and an event on April 22 will showcase speakers Janella and Kelvin King.
Bartow County Republicans hold regular monthly meetings where anyone can attend. Those are the 4th Tuesday of each month at Sixes Tavern. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 6 p.m.
