Travis Jordan wants reading to be fundamental
Travis Jordan, an attorney running for the Bartow County Board of Education District 1 seat, believes literacy can change lives.
Speaking to the Bartow County GOP in its February meeting, Jordan said studies show those who don’t pass third-grade reading have more likelihood of being jailed as adults.
He said passage of House Bill (H.B.) 1193 through the Georgia House is a good start. The bill, also called the Georgia Early Literacy Act of 2026, seeks to improve elementary literacy by funding reading coaches and holding students back in first and second grades who don’t meet required reading levels. The bill now heads to the Senate.
Jordan talked about Mississippi’s success in improving literacy, rising from one of the lowest rates in the country to the top best.
Jordan also announced at the meeting that he is resigning as Bartow County GOP membership director to focus on his campaign.
He is hosted a meet-and-greet at Olive Tree and Vine in Cartersville Saturday night. More events are planned. Email tjordanforschoolboard@gmail for RSVP, more information, and how to contribute.
