Valentine’s Day can cause some stress for those trying to surprise their spouse or date with something special. Fortunately, in this area, you have a range of activities that come in a variety of budgets.
Below are six creative ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day or the weekend following, since it falls on a Wednesday.
1. Have a picnic in Dellinger Park.
The lake is pretty and there are picnic tables there that make for a great afternoon outing. Go the extra mile and cover one with a nice tablecloth, bring flowers, nice plates and silverware, and gourmet-style food you cook or pick up from any number of local restaurants. You can use flameless candles too!
Just remember the park doesn’t allow alcohol.
2. Rent a boat.
The Lake Allatoona Marina has many types of boats you can rent for the day. It could be a great time on the lake for a couple of hours if the weather maintains the spring temperatures. Bring a nice meal to enjoy. It may set the mood.
3. Rent a cabin from a state park.
Every state park, including those at Red Top Mountain State Park and plenty in North Georgia, rents cabins super cheap. They are nice, fairly modern, and secluded. It could be the perfect getaway. You can grill outside and hike. Some even allow pets.
4. Barnsley Gardens
Barnsley Gardens is one of the most romantic places, with gorgeous grounds and spectacular ruins. There are two restaurants on the property, with The Rice House being the most suitable for a romantic evening. It isn’t cheap but worth the experience.
Those who can’t afford the Rice House have the Grill. You can also simply spend the day on the property walking, touring the museum, enjoying a bonfire, and playing crochet. Prices are nominal for that.
5. Go to a winery.
Most wineries are open on weekends. They have music and charcuterie boards with indoor and outdoor seating, fireplaces, and fire pits. The outside stroll around the property is highly romantic. Locally, there is Big Door Vineyards on Highway 20 in White.
6. Create the mood at home.
There are plenty of ways to create a romantic evening at home. One of the latest that technology has provided is the ShowHerOff online dance lessons. The lessons are affordable and streamed online as well as with a DVD. Couples who have never danced before are learning steps that make them look almost professional. Those who have done it say it’s a lot of fun and has built intimacy.
Valentine’s Day doesn’t always have to be about roses and candy. Focus on time spent together to make it special, and your spouse or date will remember it forever.
