Watching the Super Bowl with food and friends is an American tradition and there is no lack of enthusiasm in Cartersville for the game. It’s one of those times when it doesn’t matter if your favorite team isn’t in it. After all, the Super Bowl comes as a package with unique commercials and a half-time show that always stirs debate.
The big game also typically comes with a lot of food as part of the tradition. Local restaurants are preparing for tons of pick-up orders of chicken wings and appetizers for those watching at home but also have staff ready to greet those who decide to come in and watch the game on any number of large flat screens most places have today.
Newcomers will need to know where to go for wings and to see the game. Three places locally have developed a wing reputation and they are Jefferson’s, City Wings, and Sixes Tavern.
Shannon Brown, front of the house manager for Jefferson’s, said they are offering a couple of drink specials Sunday night including a $2 Coors Banquet and $3 for a Miller pint. They are also offering a $12 Miller pitcher. They will have plenty of wings too.
The restaurant understands how people love wings because it sells around 40 cases a week. Brown said good wings are a combination of cooking them correctly and having a great sauce.
“They have to be cooked right and kind of crispy,” she said, “and you have to have the right kind of sauce.”
Jefferson’s is on Main Street and has a pub feel with a bar, seating, and plenty of televisions for viewing. City Wings on the north side of Cartersville is primarily takeout, although it has a small seating area with limited service.
Sixes Tavern is on the west side of town. It’s larger with many seats, a full bar, and plenty of food options. Typically, it is known for bringing in local bands rather than sports watching.
