Local referendums for two property tax reductions will be on the General Primary ballots in Bartow County on May 21, 2024.
If approved by voters, these changes will become effective on January 1, 2025.
The first referendum increases the basic homestead exemption applicable for County M&O Taxes from $10,000 to $15,000. This will result in a property tax reduction of approximately $35 based on 2023 net county millage rates and rollbacks.
This first reduction applies for all homesteads in the county, without regard for the age of the qualifying homesteader.
The second referendum increases the basic homestead exemption applicable for BCSS School Tax from $5,000 to $15,000. This will result in a property tax reduction of approximately $174 based on 2023 BCSS school tax millage rates.
This second reduction applies for all homesteads in the BCSS Taxation District in which the qualifying homesteader is age 64 or younger.
These are the referendum items as they will appear on the General Primary Ballots. They are the final two items on the last page of the ballots. Only the first of these items will be on ballots for residents of Cartersville City School System Taxation District.
