Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter is excited to invite the community to join us for the Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Kickoff Event on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at 1 Friendship Plaza in Downtown Cartersville. This free event will raise awareness about the pressing issues of hunger and homelessness.
Attendees will be given the opportunity to hear powerful stories from individuals who have overcome homelessness and hunger, as well as from volunteers and advocates working tirelessly to improve the lives of those in need. These stories will inspire and encourage attendees to take action in supporting our community. Live music performances will create a lively and family-friendly atmosphere throughout the event.
One of the event’s most impactful initiatives is the Fill the Truck Toiletry Drive. We will have a designated truck on-site to collect donations of essential toiletry items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, and other personal hygiene products. These donations will directly benefit individuals and families staying at Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter. Please help us “fill the truck” and provide the basic necessities that many of our neighbors in need often go without. You can also support the cause by purchasing an exclusive T-shirt. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward funding the shelter’s programs that provide food, shelter, and support services to those experiencing homelessness in our community. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the event, with a variety of sizes to choose from. Wear your shirt proudly and help spread awareness throughout the week!
In addition to the toiletry drive, attendees can make monetary donations to support Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter’s ongoing programs. Your contribution will directly support efforts to end hunger and homelessness in Cartersville and Bartow County.
“We are so excited to bring the community together for this important event,” said Amanda Pruitt, Good Neighbor’s Director of Operations. “This kickoff event is not just about raising awareness – it’s about taking action and showing our unsheltered neighbors that we care. The Fill the Truck Toiletry Drive and our T-shirt Fundraiser are two very easy, and fun ways for everyone to get involved and make a real impact.”
Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter began providing shelter, food, and essential support services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Cartersville in 1996, expanding its services throughout the years to offer a second emergency shelter and additional programs including Transitional Housing and Street Outreach. During Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, we aim to foster empathy, raise awareness, and mobilize the community to address the issues of hunger and homelessness in our city.
