January 2025 is set to bring many changes to the United States and beyond.
First and foremost, Donald J. Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20. With that will come sweeping changes worldwide as President-Elect Trump prepares to hit the ground running in his first 100 days .
Some of the most significant changes will be seen at the U.S. / Mexico border. Deportation of illegal immigrants will begin soon after Trump is sworn into office.
A battle is brewing over the gavel and control of the Speaker of the House. Allies of Speaker Mike Johnson (Republican from Louisiana), are calling on President Trump to speak out in support of Johnson. Some Republican Congressmen feel he’s too weak on government funding and would like to see him replaced.
The 2024 election results are set to be certified on January 6. The Speaker needs to be confirmed by this date or face possible hiccups with the certification process.
There are still, as of now, unidentified drones flying over various parts of the United States. The people are demanding answers.
The Longshoremen (dockworkers)are talking about striking in January. They put off their strike back in October after Hurricane Helene hit the southeastern United States causing devastating damage in several states.
The temporary agreement ends January 15, 2025 and the Longshoremen say they will go on strike if automation is brought to the ports along our shorelines. This would have a significant impact on imports and exports and some believe this would crush the U.S. economy.
As of now the TikTok ban is set to go forward on January 19. Many people across this nation have come to rely on commissions from TikTok Shop sales as content creators and influencers. This has become a sole income for many families and a secondary income for others.
A few headlines of the day:
Disney appears to be backing away from cultural and political wars.
Senator John Fetterman (from Pennsylvania) has been speaking in support of Trump and against some longstanding democrat positions. Could Fetterman switch parties? Definitely something to watch and something to scratch your head over. For those asking – yes, that Fetterman.
Locally here in Georgia things are expected to heat up over an amendment on our ballot this November that voters overwhelmingly passed with 62.92% of the vote. This was HB 581 which came out of the 2024 legislative session. The measure would keep personal homeowners (not commercial property, not rental property, not industrial properties) from increasing in value to more than the Rate of Inflation which is currently around 3%. However, lawmakers added a clause in the Bill (so it would pass) that allows school systems and municipalities a one time option to “opt out.” If a school system or municipality decides to opt out, they will be required to hold public meetings to give them a chance to speak to the decision makers.
Following is a copy of the question as it was presented on your ballot this November 5, 2024 election. More to come on this measure.

PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 1
Provides for a general law state-wide homestead exemption that may differentiate among political subdivisions: “Shall the constitution of Georgia be amended so as to authorize the General Assembly to provide by general law for a state-wide homestead exemption that serves to limit increases in the assessed value of households, but which any county, consolidated government, municipality, or local school system may opt out of upon the completion of certain procedures?”
